Fundamental English [1]: (168 hours) this course,
taking the comprehensive English as the principal course, stresses
on the cultivation of students¨ interest and the basic language skills
of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and tries to expand students¨
knowledge of English background information.
Fundamental English [2]: (204 hours) this course mainly involves
grammar, diction, contextual structure, linguistic functions, reading
comprehension, translation, language comparison, etc. The course tries
to foster students¨ communicative abilities, learning methods, ways
of thinking, innovation spirit that can provide them with a concrete
foundation for their high-grade study.
Advanced English: (128 hours) the course requires students to master
various rhetorical devices by analysis of some masterpieces with difficult
language points.
English Reading [1]: (62 hours) this course is one of the basic
courses for English majors. It is a course with fast reading, extensive
and intensive readings, trying to make students into effective fast
readers.
English Reading [2]: (68 hours) this course is for sophomore English
majors, aiming to make use of different reading materials to practice
reading skills, and to mould all-round qualities of students.
Listening [1]: (128 hours) the course, by using USA Reading (1,2,3)
and Listen to This (1,2), provides students with rich native English
materials for the improvement of students¨ listening comprehension.
Listening [2]: (128 hours) the course, as listening exercises, will
do good to sophomore major students to pass the TEM-4. The programs
are mainly news recordings and TV shows, which will help students
to learn the traditions and customs of English speaking countries.
English Writing [1]: (36 hours) the course consists of 2 parts:
writing theories (structures, dictions, sentences, and paragraph organization),
and writing skills (contextual structure, applied writings).
English Writing [2]: (36 hours) the course is open for junior students,
including writings of different types (description, narration, argumentation,
etc). It aims to help students grasp the basic writing skills and
the syntactical constructions.
Linguistics: (36 hours) the major subject includes phonetics, syntax,
semantics, pragmatics, language and society, language and context,
registers, language acquisition, and error analysis.
Lexicology: (36 hours) the course includes word introduction, word
structure, word formation, word semantic features, meaning changes,
collocations, and differences between British English and American
English.
American Literature: (30 hours) the course gives introductions to
major American writers and their masterpieces, and the appreciations
on these works.
British Literature: (30 hours) the course leads students to the
introductions to the history of the British Literature from 15th to
20th century. Additionally, it includes many famous poems, proses,
plays, and essays, which will be the best for the appreciations of
English literature.
Translation: (64 hours) the course, by practicing various types
of translations, aims to provide translators with high qualities in
various fields. |
