The department has a staff of 33 , including are 2 professors, 8 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, 1 senior laboratory technician and 1 associate research librarian. 8 faculty members have doctorate or master’s degrees, and 4 members are pursuing the degrees. An academic team consisting of old, mid-age and young teachers are gradually coming into being which has a high level and high professional titles and schooling qualifications. While trying to improve teaching quality, the department pays great attention to scientific research and the construction of teacher group, and has made striking achievements. In recent two years, the department has completed 1 joint project by the State Natural Science Foundation, taken charge of 6 projects of the Natural Science Foundation by the Science and Technology Department and the Education Department of Henan Province, and has gained 1 project from the Provincial Institutions of Higher learning Young Key Teachers Financial Aid Program and a number of major teaching reform projects from the Science and Research Foundation of Zhengzhou Institute of Light Industry. The results of the research project presided by Professor Miao Xing-zhong were reported by many news media and produced wide social influence and benefits.

　　Every work in the department is done vigorously. Various and colorful activities such as the open election contest for the Student Union leaders, students’ dormitory culture month, students' social tides, scientific and cultural art festival arouse greatly the enthusiasm of the students and faculties.

　　The department will keep and develop its fine academic traditions and will make the greatest effort to promote its education and research.
